"From Classical to Jazz." Albert Lau is a multi-faceted musician. As a percussionist, composer, and arranger, he focuses on commercial music, improvisation, contemporary classical music, and keyboard percussion solos. He showcases the aesthetics of various contemporary vibraphones and marimba.

Lau has participated in large-scale performances and competitions. Previous experiences include participating in the 2025 Italy Percussive Arts Society Competition (Jazz Vibraphone) as a finalist, collaborating as a recording artist for the vibraphone commission work I See the Illumination (printed score) at the 50th Percussive Arts Society International Convention, winning 3rd prize at the 2024 7th Vienna New Year Music Competition (Percussion section), receiving the Marimba One Scholarship for jazz marimba artist Jenny Klukken’s Marimba Workshop 2024 at the University of Minnesota, participating in the Contemporary Chamber Orchestra Black House Collective, participating in Tango for Musicians at Reed College, winning 3rd place in the age group 18 at the Australian Marimba Competition 2023, winning 1st Place Marimba Award in the age group above 23 at King’s Peak International Music Competition Fall 2023, passing the audition for the Berklee Umbria Jazz Clinic and the U.S. Kansas Naftzger Young Artist Audition in 2023, participating in the Nief-Norf Summer Festival as a performance fellow at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, one of the final winners of the 1st Flash Competition of Hong Kong Baptist University Department of Music, director of his recital One Encounter One Chance in 2022, performer of Daedalus Drones with Ken Ueno as part of the Hong Kong New Vision Arts Festival 2021, performer in Musical Jam with the Green Xmas Band at the Hong Kong West Kowloon District Art Park, director of his recital 23 Hz in 2021, second honor award winner of the International Fringe Music Festival & Competition 2020, first runner-up of the China Nie Er Youth Wind Band Art Week Competition 2019, and Hong Kong representative performer of Joy Dancing Beijing Belt and Road Initiative Youth Culture Exchange Week 2018. He has collaborated with Hong Kong composers to create new works.

活躍於敲擊樂獨奏、爵士樂與樂隊演奏活動，近年參與多項演出與比賽，包括於2025意大利擊樂比賽（爵士顫音琴組）入圍總決賽、以錄音藝術家身份合作的顫音琴委約作品"I see the illumination."《俺は、光が見える…》（樂譜）於第五十屆打擊樂藝術協會國際大會（PASIC）中展出、於2024獲得維也納新年音樂會打擊樂組三等獎、獲得Marimba One Scholarship 參與爵士木琴藝術家Jenny Klukken 明尼蘇達大學馬林巴工作坊，入選美國加州當代音樂室樂團Black House Collective，，參與里德學院探戈音樂合奏，於2023年贏得澳洲馬林巴大賽公開組（18歲以上）季軍、美國King's Peak 國際音樂比賽木琴組 （23歲以上）第一名，入選伯克利意大利翁布里亞爵士研習班、入圍美國堪薩斯洲Naftzger 青年藝術家比賽試音、以表演研究者身份參與美國田納西大學Nief-Norf 夏季音樂節；於2022年作為香浸會大學音樂系第一屆Flash 獨奏比賽最終勝出者其一、舉辦擊樂獨奏會《一期一會》；2021年於新視野藝術節：上野健《代達羅斯之無人機》演出、西九文化區藝術公園《綠色聖誕大合奏》、舉辦擊樂獨奏會《23 Hz》；2020年於國際藝穗音樂節大賽敲擊樂獨奏公開組乙等獎；2019年隨翱樂管樂團於聶耳青少年管樂藝術週比賽奪得亞軍；2018年隨柏斯管樂團以香港區代表身份參與國際青少年文化藝術交流週。

He is a Music Theory Teaching Assistant and a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) student under Dr. Eric Willie at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, with full scholarship. He also developed his jazz performance style under the guidance of vibraphonist Marco Pacassoni, Berklee Jazz Vibraphone professor Gustavo Agatiello, drummer Doug Montera, pianist Christopher Leach, and Patrick Lui Pak-Hei. He has also studied with faculty members of Berklee College of Music, including Professor Ed Saindon, Yoron Israel, and Zahili Gonzalez Zamora. He was offered an annual USD $22,000 scholarship for Berklee College’s Professional Music Diploma Program (Jazz Vibraphone Performance).

為音樂理論助理及敲擊樂博士生，以全額獎學金於北卡羅來納州大學格林斯伯勒分校隨Dr. Eric Willie 學習。另隨顫音琴家Marco Pacassoni 及伯克利爵士顫音琴教授 Gustavo Agatiello、鼓手Doug Montara、鋼琴家  Christopher Leach、Ernest Turner 及雷柏熹 Patrick Lui 鑽研爵士樂，亦曾接受伯克利音樂學院教授 Ed Saindon、Yoron Isreal、 Zahili Gonzalez Zamora指導。2024年曾考獲伯克利專業音樂文憑（爵士顫音琴表演）課程半額獎學金（每年$22000美金）。

As an enthusiast in social service, he has participated in both volunteer work and music-related community service, including as an artist in the recycling music instrument workshop Musical Jam with the Green Xmas Band in Hong Kong West Kowloon District in 2021, as an overseas service team member in Cambodia with the Hong Kong Baptist University YMCA in 2019, and as a volunteer with The Salvation Army Hong Kong Chuk Yuen Centre, serving elderly in poverty, children, and the homeless in the past.

熱心社會服務，曾參與了與義工及與社會服務相關的音樂藝術工作，2021年以藝術家身份參與香港西龍文化區兒童環保樂器工作坊《綠色聖誕大合奏》，2019年以香港浸會大學基督教青年會 Y.M.C.A. 海外服務團隊成員身份前往柬埔寨。曾參與救世軍香港竹園中心義工隊，服務貧困長者、兒童、露宿者。

He obtained his Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Music with first-class honors. Albert participated in percussion masterclasses by Albert Ludwig, Kana Omori, Michael Burritt, Wei-Chen Lin, and Josie Lin. Also received private guidance from Michael Compitello, Nancy Zeltsman, and Terry Longshore.

2022年以一級榮譽畢業於香港浸會大學（榮譽）音樂文學士。劉氏曾參與 Albert Ludwig、大森香奈、Michael Burritt、林宥綸及林喆的打擊樂大師班。亦曾接受Michael Compitello、Nancy Zeltsman及Terry Longshore私人指導。
